According to The TimesofIndia, Assam’s chief electoral officer (CEO) Anurag Goel has issued a high-priority directive to all district election officers (DEOs) to prepare for a special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls before the Election Commission (EC) releases its schedule in 15 to 20 days.
The SIR stands for Special Intensive Revision. It is conducted to ensure that the electoral rolls are accurate, up-to-date, and inclusive, allowing eligible citizens to exercise their right to vote without any discrepancies. After 2005, Assam is heading for a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the Photo Electoral Rolls. Following a direction from the Election Commission of India (ECI), the Election Department, Assam, has started preparations for the SIR.
